How did you get into developing apps?
iWorth It App Reviews:
I was a Palm OS developer who saw the writing on the wall, and while I had considered writing a poker game for Palm OS, the iPhone was the perfect platform to start from scratch on as I was able to leverage many of the iPhone’s strongest features.
iWorth It App Reviews:
What was your inspiration for developing this app?
Theta Phone:
I love to play poker, but I never found a Texas Hold ‘Em game on any PDA or cell phone that could actually play the game well. They were fine for playing mindless Solitaire, but I wanted to create a Hold ‘Em game that would not only be enjoyable to play but also challenge you and help improve your game.
iWorth It App Reviews:
How long did it take to develop the app?
Theta Phone:
Over a year passed between my initial brainstorming and freehand sketches and THETA Poker 1.0 appearing in the App Store. Before the iPhone SDK was available, I prototyped the game on my Mac.
iWorth It App Reviews:
Are there any hidden features to the app?
Theta Phone:
Just about everything in THETA Poker is hidden, so to speak. There are no buttons on the main screen other than the information (’i') icon. You play poker almost naturally, tapping your cards to check, mucking your cards to fold, and pushing your chip stack into the middle of the table to go all-in. You can also tap almost everything on the table: the Blind Information brings up game details and statistics, the Pot reveals the Hand History (which you can email to yourself and import into poker analysis software), and other players’ cards show you their playing styles. The more hidden features include rotating your device to play in any orientation, shaking your device to abandon the current game, and tapping the dealer button to pause (the only truly undocumented feature).
iWorth It App Reviews:
Do you have any future plans for this app?
Theta Phone:
THETA Poker is already the easiest-to-use, strongest, fastest, and most-configurable Hold ‘Em game for iPhones and iPod touches, but upcoming features will include an escalating career mode culminating in a 5,000-player championship (I can’t call it the World Series of Poker Main Event, but that’s the idea), even stronger opponents, and a Tip-of-the-Day. Users always have great ideas for new features, and I do my best to keep them happy! THETA Poker’s to-do list is maintained at .
iWorth It App Reviews:
Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the App Store?
Theta Phone:
I am devoting all of my time to THETA Poker for the foreseeable future as it’s far more than just an app to me. It’s really a labor of love, and I will continue improving it until it is the must-have app for both serious and casual poker players. Or until it improves my game enough that I can become a full-time poker pro

I have THETA Poker and I am very impressed. I started out with Apple’s Texas Hold’em and beat all the levels. The computer-based opponents in THETA Poker play a much stronger game, and it is much more configurable — you can set up any number of opponents, entry fees, etc. For Texas Hold’em fans, this is the next step! I look forward to seeing the new features mentioned above.
