How did you get into developing apps?

Inner Four, Inc.:

Inner Four Inc. started developing iPhone Applications back in early 2008 with two entrepreneurs, John Swartz and David Rajala. By mid 2008, Inner Four Inc. had quite a few iPhone Apps in the store and started to grow in popularity and size. Now in late 2009 Inner Four Inc. has over 250 Apps in the iTunes App store and is continuing to produce applications daily.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

Inner Four, Inc.:

In developing the Saw VI: Jigsaw Your Voice application, we wanted to bring all of the Saw movies together and make one App that would encompass the feel of every Saw movie.

For the graphical work we looked to the Saw VI website ( www.saw6film.com ) and tried to bring the look and feel of the website straight to the iPhone. This way the user would have a dual experience, both on their PC and their iPhone.

When it came to getting the voice of Jigsaw himself, we had to take a moment to make a montage of all his best quotes and try to replicate that unique sound. This was one of the hardest things to accomplish in this App because everyone has a unique voice. We broke down various vocoders and reverb effects to give the user as much control over their own voice as possible and hopefully their voice would come out sounding like Jigsaw’s.

User functionality was our other main concern after the first version and after we left people kind of scratching their heads. It seemed that the interface was a little too complex for most people and this is where the presets came into play. For versions 2.0 and 3.0 we wanted to make it a lot easier for the user to just start the App and have them record and play their voice with the Jigsaw effects. Presets were the perfect solution for the simple iPhone user because they were simple, quick, and effective.

How long did it take to develop the app?

The Saw VI: Jigsaw Your Voice App took about 2 months to produce up to version 3.0 of the application with the coding and graphical work. It was all about finding out exactly what the customers wanted in the App. Every customer response on the iTunes App store led us to develop versions 2.0 and 3.0.

Are there any hidden features to the app?

Inner Four, Inc.:

There are a ton of features to the Saw VI App, but there are some things that people might miss if they move too quickly through the App.

For one thing, the Facebook features let the user access their account and tell everyone they know that they are using the Saw VI: Jigsaw Your Voice App.

Another cool feature that we added in version 3.0 was the file manager for all your “Jigsawed” recordings. The normal user might just bypass this as a boring file manager, but if you are a developer, you know that the file manager is kind of cool!

Inner Four Inc. is currently working on plenty of new Apps for the iTunes store. Inner Four Inc. releases new and exciting Apps almost every week! There are major projects in the works with Inner Four Inc. and they will be released by the end of 2009 or early 2010. So keep an eye out for us!
